The tilsigelse is the bailiff's court's summons calling the debtor to the enforcement hearing — and attendance is compulsory.
In practice
The summons calls the debtor to the enforcement hearing. It has to be served, and it carries a duty to attend: if the debtor fails to appear without lawful excuse, the bailiff’s court can rule that they are to be brought before it by the police.
For many debtors the summons is in itself what triggers payment. A letter from the bailiff’s court is of a wholly different order from the tenth reminder.
Where it commonly goes wrong
- The case is given up when the debtor fails to appear. That is precisely the point at which being brought in by the police becomes a tool.
